Michael Ruiz is Fannie Mae’s Director of Supplier Diversity. He reports to the Vice President for Procurement and leads Fannie Mae’s efforts to consider and utilize diverse-owned suppliers in its business activities. Ruiz’ portfolio includes outreach, advocacy, education, sourcing, and reporting.
Prior to joining Fannie Mae in 2010, Ruiz was the President/CEO of the Northern California Minority Supplier Development Council, an organization charged with the certification of minority-owned businesses and the facilitation of productive relationships between said businesses and Fortune 1000 corporations. His extensive background in non-profit executive leadership and community development includes positions as Executive Director of an inner-city YMCA, Small Business Manager at one of Chicago’s largest non-profit affordable housing developers, and the founding Executive Director of Accion Chicago, a start-up affiliate of an international micro-lending organization.
Michael has a Bachelor of Arts in history from Yale University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago, a Certificate in Urban Planning and Policy (Urban Developers Program) from the University of Illinois at Chicago and is an alumnus of Leadership San Francisco. A career community development champion of Puerto Rican descent who was born & raised in Chicago, Michael currently resides in Manassas, VA with his wife, Dr. Kimberly Jones-Ruiz and their three children.
